Global Gathering – New Arena’s Announced!

Posted by No comments

In just 72 days; the tents will be up, the bars will be stocked, the stages set up and the staff eagerly waiting for the flood of people ready to come through the gates for this year’s most anticipated festival! On July 27th – 28th Global Gathering returns to Long Marston Airfield, Stratford Upon Avon and in it’s 12th year running, we think it’s going to be it’s biggest year yet! With headline performances from Armin Van Buuren, Skrillex, Chase and Status, Nero and Friendly Fires.

The festival has just announced new additions to the already colossal line up that is bursting at the seams with incredible live acts and DJ’s from across the globe! Now, in the brand new arena ‘House’ headlining the event is the incredible Nicky Romero, the hard partying Australian DJ and Producer Tommy Trash, Dada Life, R3hab – electro house lover who has made successful remixes for the likes of Lady Gaga, Calvin Harris and Lil’ Wayne. The upcoming star Rob Guson will be doing exactly what it says on the tin and playing some really tasty house music. Having featured at the festival only once before, it’s going to be a brilliant addition to the festival!

Also new this year is the Ec-lectricity Arena, who simply believe in good music no matter what genre it is! They have booked melodic music craftsmen James Zabiela, Redlight, Hessle Audio (consisting of Pearson Sound, Ben UFO and Pangaea) the bass heavy Breakage, DJ and producer Mosca who binds dancehall and tech house to create a mash up concoction – perfect for Ec-lectricity Arena. Jackmaster, Rockwell, Disclosure, George Fitzgerald and the incredible vocalist featured in SBTRKT’s – Pharoah; Roses Gabor will also be playing, live and fierce!

This year is going to be huge for Global Gathering, they literally have something for everyone and when I go this summer, I’m going to make sure I see people other than just my favourites. Definitely the year to be adventurous and mix it up a bit! The Electric Arena is standing out for me the most; Annie Mac, Fake Blood, Jackbeats (DJ set.. Pretty cool) and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs… I can just imagine the vibrant, fun, bass fuelled beats being pumped around the tent and it’s going to be a dancing sensation being inside there!

A State of Trance and Godskitchen are two arenas I’ll be checking out, after watching Armin Van Buuren at Global Gathering in 2010 I was blown away, the atmosphere was so uplifting there was a possibility we might of taken off and flown into space, truly incredible and a must see again! Armin will also be broadcasting his show ‘A State of Trance’ live from the festival to millions of listeners all over the world – an absolute first for Global Gathering!

There is much more going on and for the full line up here, there is literally every genre under the sun, I recommend doing a lucky dip and going wherever it takes you. There is so many incredible DJ’s and live acts just waiting to be discovered so take a chance and have fun!

Tickets are still available and start at £105 + fees for standard weekend camping! Buy tickets for Global Gatehering Here

Awesome House Night At Sound Control Raising Money For Christie’s Charity

Posted by No comments

This Friday night  at Manchester’s, Sound Control hosts Chewn for Christie’s, an inspirational night of electronic music all in aid of the Manchester based Christie’s Hospital, the North West’s pioneering cancer research hospital that treats 40,000 cancer patients annually. We’ve all had someone effected by cancer, two of DMM’s grandparents have been cared for at Christie’s so this is one close to our heart.

Chewn - Dance Music Night in aid of Christie's CharityThe event has given birth due to the inspiration of a friend of the Chewn team, who is currently undergoing a battle with cancer. At such a young age he has shown tremendous strength as they battle this awful disease but without the help of the Christie’s Centre that might not of been possible and we find that it would be an apt tribute to both him and Christie’s to have night dedicated to them.

If ever there was a reason to go on a night out. Raising money for the heroic services Christie’s provides every day, on top of an awesome line-up of DJs a a great venue.

The line up is nothing to be shy about. 808 State’s very own Daz Partington, deep house music from Dave Deep Matthews (anyone who writes a track called Your Mum’s House deserves a medal!), Martyn Breaksjunky King and firm DMM favourite Gemma Furbank kicking off the bill.

Award winning DJ / owner of award winning record label RAM Records, Andy C, represents the drum and bass category on a massive level, with Venus resident John Steward and the stunning and equally talented Jini Cowan topping the night off.

The 1st night of June 2012, promises to be a special one in Manchester as Fire It Up and Toolroom Records are ditching traditions for the Queen’s Jubilee this year, swapping the tea for Trouse, biscuits for bass and bunting for beats for an all night dance-fest at the awesome Sankeys. With a line-up of house music royalty, a World class venue and a high quality production to boot, all in celebration of the new Toolroom Knights album, mixed by DMM favourite; king of dance music, Eddie Halliwell.

Fancy winning tickets? Follow us on Twitter tonight, @dancemusicmcr for a special competition!

Last year played host to Fire It Up’s Sankeys debut, leaving revellers in a state of delirium as the international superstar DJ, who will be returning for this exclusive North West Album Launch event, showcased an incredible production, ear-burstingly-class dance music, technical wizardry and even his legendary crowd surfing, (something not to be missed!) Fire It Up’s return will hit boiling point as one house music’s most memorable parties rolls into the city to create more life-long memories of all those involved.

Toolroom Record’s role in the World of house / electronic music has been and will forever be nothing short of legendary.  A day rarely passes that doesn’t see a Toolroom release at the top end of House music charts and with a back catalogue boasting dance music champions including Deadmau5, Mark Knight, Avicii and Wolfgang Gartner just to name but a handful, the collaborative efforts of the two brands can only result in a world class show. The ‘Toolroom Knights” arenas that attract loyal fans by the thousand to the UK’s premier music festivals are as prominent and celebrated as any. A House music fan at any event bearing the Toolroom tag knows they are in safe hands and can be positive of a premier House music experience from the cream of the crop.

EDDIE HALLIWELL will be firing it up in the main room of Sankeys, with his breathtaking ability, awe-inspiring technical ability and everlasting energy (he’s almost like a Duracell rabbit at times) that sends worldwide audiences into raptures. In true Fire It Up style, the supporting cast is a powerhouse of musical talent consisting of the highly acclaimed Third Party, of Steve Angello’s Size Records, on the back of the release of their new summer anthem “Feel” with Cicada which has stormed the online charts. Adding to the festivities is Fire It Up favourite and guest of Tiesto at the world’s largest nightclub, Privilege, Ibiza. Kryder alike to Eddie is another technology abuser and is not shy of utilising multiple decks and effects racks. Mixmag Ibiza resident D.O.D will join the show continuing the 4 decks are better than 2 theme of the night and lastly, Gatecrasher resident Nick Coulson. Rounding off the line-up in Spektrum & The Bar is “Future Heroes” – Liam Wilson, Pete Bromage, Pete Moby, Sean Grainger, Leo Slater, Mark Fletcher, Jan Carstensen, Yannis Gorak b2b Grant Mizon, Daniel Rostron and Push Continue.

We Love… Space Announces Summer Line-Ups

Posted by No comments

Delivering an incredible musical variance that year on year sets the standard for the Ibiza season; We Love…announce their full line-ups for 2012, which sound pretty exciting! Space Ibiza will be home to the event for 17 consecutive weeks which means only one thing, party party party. We Love has worked hard over the years to create a playground filled with diversity and energy and some of the world’s most respective acts and Dj’s.

They really know how to set the bar high for the Ibiza season, this year We Love returns holding a four date monthly residency with some of dance music’s Gods. The seasons opening party will be on the 10th June and the line up is massive! Flying in will be the likes of James Zabiela, Hot Chip , Heidi and Radio 1’s Jaymo and Andy George on the Sunset Terrace. Known for mixing it up a bit, the line-ups are filled with bits of everything so it feels more like a 1 day festival, and it also means you get to hear someone you might never of heard before!

Over the course of the summer, We Love have some amazing Sundays in store, playing with their diverse and different theme they’ve had going for so many years, prepare for some funky combinations. Last year they had Aphex Twin in one ear and on the other someone playing Dolly Parton! As well as the Incredible DJ’s coming to Space, 2012 welcome 22 live acts to one of the biggest stages on the island. Prepare for visuals, masks and high tech visuals to create stunning audio and visual shows. Last year I remember stilt walkers, fancy costumes and even a giant net that was pulled over the crowd. It was fantastic!

2 Bears, Scuba, Julio Bashmore, Tensnake, Felix Da Housecat and A1 Bassline host some of the first events in June. Hot Chip will play 1 of their 3 nights, the twosome have worked hard to prove they are stadium filling DJ’s and plan to tear the dancefloor apart with their electro house vibes. July will be peak season and it will be hot hot hot in Ibiza. Groove Armada, Claude Von Stroke, 2 Many DJ’s, Steve Bug, Miss Kitten, Joris Voorn, Deetron and Tale Of Us are all set to play to the music loving crowds of Ibiza.

August is a very special month for Space as on August 12th it’s their 23rd birthday! Guests of honour The Chemical Brothers will be there to sing happy birthday… I mean play an incredible DJ set for the occasion and hosting the terrace on the same day for one of two shows, will be Italian brethren’s Savana Potente who bring a raft of their favourite artists with Joris Voorn, DJ Ralf, Martin Buttrich live and YaYa.

And last but not least, September will be the month that the glum brits decide to bunk off work and party hard for that last of the remaining sunshine and parties! As Ibiza is closed all winter, it really is your last chance to go before the wind, rail, snow and hail settle in for the winter blues. We Love have managed to get visual sensation Dj Yoda, Carl Craig, Eat’s Everything, Claude Von Stroke, Modeselektor and Henrik Schwarz to finish the summer off and make sure It goes out with a bang!

Full line up’s for the 2012 season can be found here.

Planet Trance @ Sound Control 12th May

Posted by No comments

As we are all aware, trance has been put on the back burner in recent years, but it’s about time that things changed. It’s not about the classics or the euphoric moments any more, Trance is making a massive come back and it’s meaner, harder and with a lot more lasers. Soundcontrol to me is the upcoming underground venue of Manchester, an intimate location with a real gritty vibe that just calmly says ‘Yeah I’m cool’.

Planet Trance is a brand new night coming to Sound Control on the 12th May (This Saturday!) and it’s determined to put Trance back on the map in Manchester. They are kicking the night off with an incredible line up of some of the hottest Trance DJ’s at the moment with an enormous laser show complete with 3D laser animations and wonderful atmospherics.

Who else would be headlining the event other than the fantastic Jordan Suckley, a DJ that has gone from strength to strength and who has really embraced his success! After securing a monthly slot on BBC radio 1 and since being part of’ In new DJ’s We Trust’, Jordan’s name is popping up everywhere, and Sound Control is really happy to announce he is topping the bill and flying the flag for forthcoming trance in Manchester!

John Martin is another huge name in the scene, a man who has been there and done that, music has taken him worldwide and he’s played over sea’s in Ibiza and Mallorca since before I was born! John has an incredible ability to build things up then drop them with euphoric breaks, and he has a knack for pleasing the crowds! With lots happening for him over the summer, listen out for his releases on Planet Trance Records because they are going to be big!

Thomas Orlando also known as Trance Arts will be flying in from Germany to be here in Manchester. Coming from the German Munsterland (NordrheinwestFallen) he is music producer and DJ who loves to play uplifting and progressive trance songs, get ready to put your arms up in the air and be taken away by one of the hottest upcoming talents in Germany.

One of Trance FM’s newest Dj’s, Steve Broderick has been making a name for himself since the move to the show, with over a thousand listeners tuning in every week. Steve is really happy to be involved in the night and is a firm beliver of the ethos behind the event, he will be making loads of appearances in the UK and beyond this year so make sure you keep an eye out for him!

Last but not least is the extremely talented and hard working Sam Mitcham who has been making waves in the UK recently, following the success of his event Wax Format on at Sound control last month, this Dj and producer has big plans for 2012 and will be doing a season out in Ibiza after his amazing time there last year. He’s been featured on the line ups of some of the biggest Tech, Trance and Hard Dance events including, The Warehouse Project, Godskitchen, Passion… Off the rails and Insomniacz at Magna.

Get yourself down to this pretty sweet opening event on the 12th May or be sure to miss out!

Tickets are £12 + booking fee – get them here!

Venus Nightclub – Converting Beliebers Into House Music Since 1999

Posted by No comments

Before you say it, baby faced Justin Bieber was about 4 in 1999, so swap with Take That fans, Backstreet Boys groupies or Spice Girl wannabees and over the years all have been converted by the incredible atmosphere and vibe that only house music brings to a club and last night was no exception.

DMM ventured into the city centre to one of our favourite spots, Venus taking two friends of ours, pop-crazed, Justin Bieber / The Wanted fanatics who could not understand how or why we loved dance music so much. “You can’t dance to house music”, one stated, quite confidently. If your body tingles at the thought of a quality house track, blasting from nightclub speakers, you’ll understand why we simply had to introduce them.

When we arrived at Venus, the very first thing they noticed was the friendliness of the crowd. Several people said hello on the way in, one of the girls was complimented by a completely random lass and the vibe was instantly a lot more relaxed than their usual hangouts. Score one for Venus.

We hit the dance floor almost immediately, the incredible Sonny Wharton smashing it out to a busy crowd of revelers and within seconds the girls were both dancing away like seasoned-veterans of the house music world. Well played Sonny! His set was an absolute corker, a mixture of uplifting, hands in the air house and dirty, melodic beats, the crowd loved him as he tore it up at the Manchester night club.

The Sick Elektrik lads took over at about 230 and the crowd went crazy. Some of the moves being thrown in the DJ booth rivalled ours on the floor, in a very energetic, well thought out set. They did incredibly well to mix in the Venus’ crowd pleasing vocals with quality underlying beats, something we talked about on Wednesday at their studio. (Interview to come soon…)  I couldn’t get the girls off the dance floor if I wanted to as Ben and Jon grabbed the night and smashed it to pieces, track after track. Another awesome set from two very talented DJs and producers; check out their latest offering, “Crash” on Soundcloud, you will not be disappointed!

Frater & Stent topped our night off with our track of the night. We know it’s been done before but Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams took off. It might be an oldie and a classic but if done well it can still destroy dance floors. Cheers again to Chris (Frater) for shouting out on Unity FM before the gig. Definitely worth a listen every Saturday 92.8fm (or online) between 7 and 9pm, great pre-club show to get you in the mood.

In conclusion, hats off to Venus, another quality night at one of Manchester’s finest venues. Tonight has Junior Jack and Kid Creme hitting the main room, with the legendary Venus Classics in the back. We don’t need to stress how good tonight will be, so just get down there and see for yourself.

J, DMM

Awesome New Podcast from Gina Star

Posted by No comments

OK, so we’re all over Gina Star at the moment. She absolutely nailed Venus, Manchester with her exhilarating  house set, with DMM throwing some ridiculous dance moves at the front as per usual. Not only is she technically brilliant, brought a variety to her tracklist and really lovely but she’s a great performer and danced her socks off straight through the set.

We then found her brand new podcast in our inbox and had to share it with the World Wide Web. It’s completely free, syncs with your iPod / iPhone / iPad / BB / Android etc and is great to listen to at work, on the train from work, in the shower, before a night out, whenever floats your boat.

Gina has had a mass array of awesome single releases behind her, with some of the worlds’s best Dance labels backing her including, Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records in UK and Eire, Vicious in Australia and New Zealand, NEWS in Belguim, Holland and Luxembourg, TIME records in Italy, We Play in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Family Tree Music in Scandinavia, Just Music in South Africa, Blanco & Negro in Spain, Warner Bros in Israel, and Atlantic Records for north American, Japan, and the rest of the dance music universe.

Her recent smasher, remixing Tiësto and Toolroom boss Mark Knight‘s Beautiful World, along with her track placed in the 2012 Miami buzz chart and shows both sides of the Atlantic, Gina’s smiling face will be one to follow this Summer. Unfortunately, Gina is now back stateside but she has left us with her new monthly lowdown of what’s heating up the dance floors as a gift that you will most likely love.

The launch edition of Gina’s podcast is available now on iTunes for FREE!

Riva Starr Presents Bateria Fantastica

Posted by No comments

Featuring a unique blend of exclusive & unique South American flavoured cuts produced by several of the worlds top producers. Exclusively crafted for Bateria Fantastica, the tracks include two awesome collaborations from Riva Starr, one with DJ sneak, and the other with Guti. The compilation also squeezes together Carl Cox & Jon Rundell, Butch, Nouveau Yorican, El Poncho, DJ Madskills & 2000andOne, Ramon Tapia, Pirupa & Spada, Toto La Momposina, Aldo Cadiz and more into one incredible album..

After destroying both London’s East Village and our very own Joshua Brooks in sunny Manchester, (it was sunny today, so we’re sticking to it) over Easter, datatransmission.co.uk will be heading to the sea for the start of the summer. For their South coast debut at beachfront club Audio on Saturday 2nd June, they’ll be bringing a teasing glimpse of the Ibiza sun and carnival-inspired tracks to Brighton – featuring one of house music’s favourite personalities, Riva Starr. On the 25th May, Riva heads to one of  DMM’s favourite Manchester venues, Sankeys, for what should be a quality night of house music.

His new Snatch! WMC Compilation album Batería Fantástica is a blend of Riva’s trademark bounce, garnished with South American and Latin flavours and featuring contributions from traditional musicians and artists. The album screams summer fun, sexy nights and pays homage to the early days of Miami, via collaborations with DJ Sneak, Guti, Carl Cox, DJ Madskillz to name but a few.

“I come from Naples, South of Italy and South of the world. I have always had a very strong connection with the sounds and atmospheres of the South. That’s why I wanted to involve some of my friends in this special project. The guys delivered a whole range of tracks, from huge bangers to deep & dark to the more groovy, warmer vibe. This album will get your feet burning. FIESTA!”
