Two new nights at Sankeys for 2013: Recentes & Fiesta

2013 sees Sankeys enter the New Year with an incredible 4 month calendar ahead from January to April, with the likes of Zane Lowe, Laidback Luke, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, James Zabiela and Pendulum taking over the Beehive Mill venue. Not only that, but this global music and cultural institution, massively popular in the Manchester area, is launching two brand new parties; Recentes and Fiesta.

Sankeys Recentes

The first new night, Recentes, kicks off on Saturday 19th January and is all about fashioning forward-thinking, contemporary line-ups representing the heart of electronic music. For us, this sounds like a welcome addition to an already buzzing Manchester music scene but offering something a bit different for those wanting a more clued-up excursion to their weekends. Have a listen to Sankey’s resident Jozef K’s latest mix below to give you a taste of what bassy house/electro sounds to expect.

Recentes will feature producers and DJs who are really standing out from the rest, underground talent spanning across the deep techno to UK garage scene. With big names such as Dusky, Boddika, Shadow Child and Eliphino being just of some of the global DJs and producers aiming to bring the freshest sounds to Sankeys. Also coming up are collaborations with popular Manchester night Just Skank, who are playing host to Brookes Brothers and Funtcase with other nights in association with Take The Whole Cake and Troupe.

Sankeys Fiesta

Following the success of Continue, Sankeys second new night Fiesta is all about great house music, showcasing iconic legends and the new breed of producers and DJs breaking through the ranks in this genre. It says it all when you see Todd Terry headlining the opening night on Saturday 26th January, and we’re looking forward to experiencing this new night for ourselves at Sankeys in the future.

These new nights are all about the variety and experiencing different music scenes and vibes going on around Manchester. We expect both to be a storming success at one of the city’s best club venues. Join in the standard #DMMDanceOff if you see us down there!

COMPETITION: WIN a pair of tickets to Sankeys Recentes, in association with Take The Whole Cake present Boddika, Dusky, Eliphino, Tessela, Shadow Child + Jozef K – 19th January, 11pm – 6am.

To enter, tell us why you should think you should win the pair of tickets on our Facebook post or send us a message on Twitter using @dancemusicmcr and #recentes. Competition closes on Thursday 17th January at 9pm and the winner will be notified on Friday. Good luck!

Sankeys reaches greater heights in 2013 from the word GO!

Now that The Warehouse Project’s dominating 12 week season has finished, it’s fair to say a hole has been left in Manchester’s nightlife. So what perfect timing it is for another of this city’s dance music institutions, Sankeys, to release a four-month calendar with a line-up any music lover would dream of. It’s fair to say that on first inspection, the Beehive Mill venue has really pushed the boat out to prove itself as a host to some of the best raves and parties to kick off 2013.

Let’s take a look at some of the incredible dates coming up that are guaranteed to be the talking point around Manchester over the coming months. While we, as many other keen dance music lovers out there, will want to go to the majority of the nights, we’ve highlighted a few we expect will be an absolute blast, and are particularly keen to get our booty-shaking asses down to.

The incredible Sankeys line-up

Friday January 18th sees Radio 1 DJ and all around music legend, Zane Lowe, gracing the decks in Sankeys, joined by Bristol-based Koan Sound, whose creative and original ethos has granted them well-deserved credibility from producers, DJs and music fans alike. Mr Lowe’s sets, from past experience at various venues around the UK, have been what can only be described as unbelievable; every single song and mix, from whatever genre or year, results in every single person dancing their feet off. With Koan Sound thrown into the mix, an act I personally am intrigued and excited to see, this is without a doubt going to be a decent night.

What better way to begin February than Dutch superstar DJ Laidback Luke headline a night, alongside fellow DJ and producer from the Netherlands, Oliver Twizt? While we’re familiar with the insane sets and his dynamic fusion of house-trance-bass sounds of Luke, we have yet to see for ourselves Mr Twizt in action. With wide support from the likes of Roger Sanchez, Sander van Doorn, Carl Cox and Judge Jules, plus remixing for Sandro Silva, it sounds like Friday 1st February is going to be a big one.

Before we’ve had chance to recover, two weeks later on Friday 15th, trance idol Paul Oakenfold will make his Sankeys Manchester debut, inviting his ‘Full on Fluoro’ brand of superstar, high BPM DJs; Simon Patterson, Radio 1’s Jordan Suckley, Garuda label manager Craig Connelly and Manchester hero James Rigby, plus mysterious character ANGRY MAN also making his world debut… Let James tell you more about it here.

A month later on Friday 15th March, a DMM favourite, world-renowned DJ/producer James Zabiela, is joined by The 2 Bears, the London-based musical duo made up of Joe Goddard (of Hot Chip) and Raf Rundell, with Raf putting on an incredible intimate set at The WHP’s Boiler Room last year being a highlight of the WHP season,  Let’s just stop a second and take note of just some of the DJs and producers we’ve mentioned so far and big up Sankeys for treating us to some of the leaders in the music industry. Both Zabiela and the Bears are set to continue an electro/2-step/tech/house theme for ravers and party-goers from Manchester and beyond.

Our final mention is for drum’n’bass legends Pendulum, who will be headlining one of Sankey’s new nights on Friday 22nd March, Recentes. This is all about fashioning forward-thinking contemporary line-ups representing the heart of electronic music, showcasing underground talent as well as global stars, and what better way to highlight this than with the guys who brought us classics such as ‘Tarantula’ and ‘Slam’. Having seen Pendulum a few times now, I have yet to be disappointed or come away from a set with my feet and shoes still intact.

So there you go, these are just some of the line-ups Sankeys has in store for you Manchester ravers, and we’re expecting these next few months to go down a storm. We’ll just mention a second new night, Sankeys Fiesta, all about great house music and uniting iconic legends with a new breed of producers and DJs breaking through the ranks. We’ll definitely be going to one of these nights at some point, once we’ve recovered from the many immense nights coming up!

The Warehouse Project comes to a close with two incredible nights to mark the new year

After an incredible 3 months of monster raves at the Victoria Warehouse, the 2012 Warehouse Project season is coming to a close with 2 ridiculous line-ups on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.  It’s fair to say we, as well as thousands of other music lovers and ravers, have been spoilt by some incredible nights throughout the season, from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Laidback Luke to the celebration of 10 Years of Metropolis, Annie Mac Presents and our personal highlight, Skrillex, at DMM we cannot complain. The final shows to say goodbye to 2012 and wave hello to the New Year at WHP are set to be even bigger and more memorable than ever.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

New Year's Eve @ WHP

Let’s take a look at the first epic line-up, celebrating the last day/night of 2012; Annie Mac, Simian Mobile Disco, Rudimental (both DJ sets), James Zabiela and Felix da Housecat were announced back in October as leading a night of nine hours of raving across three rooms. Then there’s live sets from Benoit & Sergio, Toddla T (‘The Toddla T Sound’), Olugbenga,  Tensnake, Jaymo & Andy George, Paul Woolford and Bondax. Joining them at probably one of the biggest parties in the UK  will be Krysko, Now Wave DJs, Juicy DJs, Greg Lord, Zutekh and Drop the Mustard. We’re looking forward to the return of some of the top international DJ’s who blew us away first time round, plus a whole host of some of our favourites we’ve not yet witnessed to destroy the rooms of WHP.

Look out for us lot who will no doubt be starting our usual DMM Dance Offs, with Kurt-Lee doing his standard fist pumping, SpamellaB aka ‘Spammy 2 Moves’ and James’ Higgy Wiggle. We want to rave with and get as many people involved in the party on the last night of 2013, so come and join!

NEW YEAR’S DAY Closing Party

New Year's Day @ WHP

While the majority of us will be recovering from a heavy New Year’s Eve, those lucky enough to have a ticket for the first night of 2013 and last WHP of the season will be treated to some of the best global electro/house/techno DJs, artists and producers around. Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler, two of the brightest stars on the music scene, are joined by the likes of Maceo Plex, Derrick Carter, Four Tet (DJ set), Julio Bashmore + Joy Orbison B2B (how good?!), Heidi and Eats Everything.

If you think that’s not enough to float your music-loving boat, how about Nina Kravitz, Jackmaster, Levon Vincent, Midland, Bicep, Justin Robertson, Krystal Klear, Huxley, Trevino, Alexis Raphael, Krysko, Greg Lord and Will Tramp!, to feed and satisfy your ears and raving needs.A few weeks ago it was announced there will be three special intimate shows at the end of January, to keep our withdrawal symptoms at bay until it returns in full force, but we expect this night will see the rooms of WHP being completely smashed up for the last time this season.

Whether you go to one of the two nights or both, we know for a fact you’ll be part of some of the biggest nights in dance/electro/house music in the UK. We just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone involved in the Warehouse Project and for making this Autumn / Winter an absolutely epic one in Manchester. Everyone we have talked to who has been to any one of the nights, from all over the country, have nothing but praise for it and the venue itself. See you there and in 2013 of course!

Global Gathering – New Arena’s Announced!

In just 72 days; the tents will be up, the bars will be stocked, the stages set up and the staff eagerly waiting for the flood of people ready to come through the gates for this year’s most anticipated festival! On July 27th – 28th Global Gathering returns to Long Marston Airfield, Stratford Upon Avon and in it’s 12th year running, we think it’s going to be it’s biggest year yet! With headline performances from Armin Van Buuren, Skrillex, Chase and Status, Nero and Friendly Fires.

The festival has just announced new additions to the already colossal line up that is bursting at the seams with incredible live acts and DJ’s from across the globe! Now, in the brand new arena ‘House’ headlining the event is the incredible Nicky Romero, the hard partying Australian DJ and Producer Tommy Trash, Dada Life, R3hab – electro house lover who has made successful remixes for the likes of Lady Gaga, Calvin Harris and Lil’ Wayne. The upcoming star Rob Guson will be doing exactly what it says on the tin and playing some really tasty house music. Having featured at the festival only once before, it’s going to be a brilliant addition to the festival!

Also new this year is the Ec-lectricity Arena, who simply believe in good music no matter what genre it is! They have booked melodic music craftsmen James Zabiela, Redlight, Hessle Audio (consisting of Pearson Sound, Ben UFO and Pangaea) the bass heavy Breakage, DJ and producer Mosca who binds dancehall and tech house to create a mash up concoction – perfect for Ec-lectricity Arena. Jackmaster, Rockwell, Disclosure, George Fitzgerald and the incredible vocalist featured in SBTRKT’s – Pharoah; Roses Gabor will also be playing, live and fierce!

This year is going to be huge for Global Gathering, they literally have something for everyone and when I go this summer, I’m going to make sure I see people other than just my favourites. Definitely the year to be adventurous and mix it up a bit! The Electric Arena is standing out for me the most; Annie Mac, Fake Blood, Jackbeats (DJ set.. Pretty cool) and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs… I can just imagine the vibrant, fun, bass fuelled beats being pumped around the tent and it’s going to be a dancing sensation being inside there!

A State of Trance and Godskitchen are two arenas I’ll be checking out, after watching Armin Van Buuren at Global Gathering in 2010 I was blown away, the atmosphere was so uplifting there was a possibility we might of taken off and flown into space, truly incredible and a must see again! Armin will also be broadcasting his show ‘A State of Trance’ live from the festival to millions of listeners all over the world – an absolute first for Global Gathering!

There is much more going on and for the full line up here, there is literally every genre under the sun, I recommend doing a lucky dip and going wherever it takes you. There is so many incredible DJ’s and live acts just waiting to be discovered so take a chance and have fun!

Tickets are still available and start at £105 + fees for standard weekend camping! Buy tickets for Global Gatehering Here

The first record I ever played at We Love… was Derrick Carter´s “Where You At?” and both the record and it´s message seem even more relevant than ever. I have been given the freedom with my residency to develop and take it where I want to go, and I know that there is no other club on Ibiza that would be open to certain ideas, where We Love… have jumped at the chance and welcomed them with open arms. I can´t wait to return on June 10th. Paul Woolford
